This Man Called Police Over A “Wrong Meal” In McDonald’s. The Outcome Has Started A Whole New Debate
This incident happened at the McDonald’s on Oxford Street in Manchester city center. On the night of his wedding anniversary, Leslie McDonagh left his workplace a bit early. Before he could meet his wife, he ended up meeting some police officers.
Before meeting his wife, he decided to grab a bite. However, he ended up pouring down some six cans of lager into his stomach, which was not his daily diet of beer. With this much amount of alcohol, a scuffle was bound to happen.
He then went to McDonald’s and ordered a meal without onions. However, the staff didn’t really bother to do what was asked of them. He was less than impressed by the service and decided to call the police as he is allergic to onions.
Things took a turn for the worse when the police arrived. When the men in uniform reached the scene, they tried to escort McDonagh from the premises. However, he fell on the floor and ended up grabbing the legs of one of the officers. After losing his composure, he ended up spitting in an officer’s face as he was removed from the restaurant, before being arrested for being slushed and creating havoc.
A court hearing took place between the 53-year-old insurance worker from Wigan, and the manager of the food chain. Leslie’s defense lawyer, Claire Parrot, tried to explain his part and said that the issue was not between the police and his client. The main issue was that he wasn’t given the meal he asked for. Also, he agreed to the fact that the person in question was drunk to the extent he usually doesn’t drink.
The lawyer tried to explain that Leslie is not a violent person and that he works for financial services and has had the same job for five years. So, behaving this way in public is not his usual behavior. It definitely wasn’t a planned move.
Prosecutor Paul Sumner presented his case and said that Leslie was being violent to the staff and manager and it happened again when the police came. The police said that the man called 999 just because his order was not delivered the way he wanted and that is not a legitimate reason for calling up police, so they asked McDonagh to leave. Instead, he acted rudely with the officers as well.
McDonagh admitted that he was at fault by being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was ordered to complete a 12-month community order with 120 hours’ unpaid work and was also fined £190 for causing the disorder.
